1981 Relcraft 23 'Aqua Nova'

UPD Re-Homed Now

Ashore in Aldeburgh

Apparently, the boat was on the Norfolk Broads for most of its life but more lately on Suffolk river estuaries for the last 2-3 years before the current owner bought her as a project last year. Unfortunately, the owner does not really have enough time to finish the project. The right person could turn it back into a very nice boat. The main problem was the sterndrive was in a very poor state and the engine not running.

The main things to note and things that have been done are as follows:

  • The hull is very sound
  • The awning has been cleaned and restitched
  • Got the engine running (1.6 litre diesel retrofit for the original 150 hp mercruiser petrol). The problem was the pre-heat was not working. This was fixed and there is a video of it running which can be sent separately.
  • In anticipation of not getting the engine running there was purchased a replacement ford escort engine. This is not marinized but identical and should be considered as good for spares although the seller said it was running when taken out of a rusty car.
  • The trim and tilt system was fixed as this was previously inoperable
  • Removed the engine to allow removal of the sterndrive
  • Dismantled the sterndrive and found replacement parts for the heavily corroded components. It is now mounted on a stand ready for reassembly and most of the o rings & gaskets etc for that is present. There are also several spare major components for the sterndrive.
  • The boat needs putting back together and tidying up but generally is “all there”. The only main things that need purchasing are replacement steering & gear shift cables and perhaps a second hand replacement control box as the old one is sloppy.

The hull is located in Aldeburgh in Suffolk. The engines,  sterndrive and spares are in the current owner's storage units. The owner has a heavy duty trailer with a cherry picker so can deliver the engines sterndrive and spares locally to Aldeburgh. Otherwise, it is the new owner's responsibility to collect the parts.
