Afloat on the River Frome, near Wareham, Dorset
'Sephine' is a 1969 Thames Marine Snapdragon 26, completed at Canvey Island. Her bilge keel design is a common sight in many ports. Despite being a 26ft LOA boat, she is designed with 5 berths: a double V-berth in the forepeak, a double in the galley, and a single in the quarterberth. Her owners have owned her since the mid-1990s, and we are told she has been in regular use since.
Snapdragons have LOA 26ft, LWL 24ft 3in, beam 8ft 6in, draft 2ft 9in, displacement 3 tons, total sail area 209 sq ft, mast 26ft 6in (tabernacle mounted), boom 12ft.
She lies on a private mooring. Please note the mooring is NOT available with the boat, so a new owner will need to arrange her removal or their own mooring.
She has been reported to have had a good bit of care over the years. Her 2-burner hob and grill, upholstery, curtains, fuel tank and sea toilet have been replaced in the past half a decade. We have also been told the Perspex cabin windows have been replaced in this time.
It has been noted that some of her running rigging will need replacement. She has a tabernacle-mounted mast (26.5ft). The Snapdragon fleet is quite lively. There are both forums and associations for the Snapdragon as well as Thames Marine boat owners.
Her mainsail is on a mast reefing system, with the mast furling foil adjacent just behind the mast. The mainsail is described as used, but serviceable. Her foresail is also on a roller furling system, and is said to be in as-new condition. This boat has been loved, and has received a great deal of care over the years.
Her engine is a 10hp Swedish Albin 021. These engines are often associated with the first waves of Snapdragons. Her owners report that it runs and is in good working order.
She also comes with a Navico RT6500S VHF radio and an Eagle UltraNav II GPS depth finder/plotter. Both are reported to work, although the radio will need a new handset.
